Women’s Caribbean Premier League

The Women’s Caribbean Premier League, also known as WCPL, is a women’s Twenty20 cricket tournament conducted by Cricket West Indies. The first edition was played in 2022 and concurrently with the equivalent men’s competition.

The Women’s Caribbean Premier League 2024 was the third series recently held in the West Indies. The tournament took place between 21st and 29th August 2024. 

The Caribbean Premier League 2024 champions were Barbados Royals, who defeated Trinbago Knight Riders. Three teams competed in the tournament: Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors, and Trinbago Knight Riders.

WCPL T20 Format 

The WCPL 2024 participating teams, Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors, and Trinbago Knight Riders, played the other opponents twice, therefore playing four matches in total. 

This was an increase by a factor of two in group-stage matches compared to the previous season. The two highest-ranked teams in the group advanced to the final.

Having analyzed the league's organization, it can be stated that it functioned according to a points scheme, which positioned participants according to the total sum of points and decided which qualifiers would play in the Final match.

WCPL History

The Women’s Caribbean Premier League was started in 2022 by the West Indies Cricket Board. The men’s and women’s CPL competitions were played concurrently as a one-month event, starting on August 30 and ending on September 30, 2022.

The three teams that participated in the tournament were announced in March 2022: Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors, and Trinbago Knight Riders. The tournament's second edition was played in 2023, and all teams played each other twice at the group stage. 

Barbados Royals won the tournament, defeating Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final match. They stood as a strong team. Barbados Royals continued their championship by defeating the Trinbago Knight Riders in the WCPL 2024 final.
